Concept of Photography getting Lost????

                                What is PHOTOGRAPHY............

The art or practice of taking and processing photographs.

The term photography comes from Greek words. The term photo means light. As for the word graph means drawing. Photography is used in advertising, magazines, journals, articles and etc. Photography certainly does make life exciting; it gives us a visual to look at and allows us to articulate many different things around the world. Photography has been out for many many years, but the question is what is the media doing that makes photography seem so easy?! This is the age of new media and social networking sites such as Instagram and smartphones where everyone thinks they are "photographers". People are simply adding filters with the click of a button. Coming out of the University of Hartford Art School, I would spend hours in the darkroom for just one photograph. When I wanted to add a filter to an image to tone an image I would add a filter which took another whole hour in the darkroom. In the article Art photography when reality isn't good enough by Ashley Strickland CNN website it explained how the problem nowadays is how many people have " thrown every filter and post–processing technique at a photo and called it ART". A PROBLEM?????? YES INDEED!!!! The backbone and foundation of photography and ART is being LOST.

Music a form of Art?

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see” –Edgar Degas

When defining the term art it’s the “expression or application of human creative skill and imagination”. We tend to typically consider paintings, sculptures, drawings, ceramics and photography as a visual form of art. On that note can we see music being art?  While reading the NY Times earlier I came into contact with an article called “Music with a message about power”.

Musical Artist: Stevie Wonder performed at the Global Citizen Festival Central Park on
September 28. 2013.

In this article it describes how the message given was about poverty with such objectives such as testimonials and rapid change in the world. When a nice harmony, vocals and a band  playing, with hand clapping and toe tapping happens this relates to music. All of the previous factors make music ART. NY Times describes Stevie Wonder as being “hyped in a bake’s cadence by Bono of U2– he came bearing magnificent good feeling, a party starter with a conscience. Putting an airtight but adaptable band through its paces.” If ART is an expression that features human skills and imagination, this event taken place in Central Park was just that. MUSIC is ART!

“Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to the loneliness.  –Maya Angelou “ Gather Together in my Name”

The Lens of your mind!

Welcome to the world of Media Gallery!

The media gives life to these things, and for the next few months I will take a closer look and will began analyzing the many viewpoints that the world may see art, fashion and photography.

(Sunday Mar. 17. 2013 Sis Tracey)

Artist: Rondasia Lamaria
On Saturday May 4. 2013 was the opening of my art show called "Illumination of Art". I showed this image. Many viewers seen this piece and were astonished. Why would viewers taking a look at my work give such an emotion? Is this a form of art? Do you understand how it relates to fashion? What makes it photography? Question Questions Question.... Well one thing I had to consider while taking this photograph dealt with how can I show the world this woman of God in her "Sundays Best". How would people understand that yes I portray fashion, but I want people to know this is photography and art.  When it comes to art the artist must know what they are striving for, and in this case I knew exactly what I wanted viewers to graps. Such reactions were "She is so elegant and is fashionable" "That is Sundays Best; its a good photograph" and "This piece is a form of art and a strong image". Overall how does the media determine what ART, FASHION AND PHOTOGRAPHY is all about...Stay tuned for these next few months and more will be revealed.
